I put the flappers on last night. Looks like I will get to try them out soon...I'll let you know.

Finally got to try out the flapper mod on the blower this weekend.

I was very impressed with the added distance the blower threw snow. Even with this heavy snow, it was throwing it 25% further than before I added the flappers.

This only being a single stage blower, that 25% is huge as it doesn't really crank it out like a two-stage in the first place.

For the little amount of money ($5) and time (45 minutes), it was well worth it and I would highly recommend.

Thump,
I finally decided to put some $$ into my 25+ year old single-stage 2-stroke Toro, and put new flaps on for the first time. While my clearance was not a lot (<3/16") the new flappers certainly help throw the snow much further than last year.

Sure, it's old, loud and smokes, but it always starts on the first pull. At this point, it's now a game to see which one of us dies first,,,,,,

Lol. I hope you win.

My gap was larger than 3/16"...I used a softer rubber so, not sure how long they will last, but they look good yet after about 30 minutes of blowing.

I see guys also downsize the large sprocket on my blower to get more RPM on the auger, which also looks like a fairly easy mod to do.

I did that a long time ago, after noticing that my FIL's smaller unit would throw snow much further, and found the only really difference between the 2 units was that sprocket. I don't remember it making a big difference on mine, but faster is always better, eh?

Of course, one of his kids decided to do Dad a favor, and used that 2S Toro to clean the driveway. Ran real good on straight gas, right up until it siezed,,,,,
