Default OnBoard Charging extension

Gents,

I’m installing a 3 bank onboard charger. I have to extend 2 battery leads to reach the bow of my boat from the stern. Has anyone every done this? The ones that come with it are 6’ I’m going to need to be 16’.
I called the manufacturer but all I got for a response was it will void the warranty.

I’ve done this, Pro Mariner makes extension wires with connectors.

Look in the back of your manual, they offer extension kits.

As previously posted, check your manual. Most onboard chargers have sensors built into the end of the cable that connects to your battery to provide feedback to the charger. It can be done either through an extension kit or I've seen adding to the middle of the cable. Here is from my Minnkota charger manual:

h. If the DC output cords are not long enough, they may be lengthened by splicing and soldering 12 AWG (minimum) wire. Each
splice should be covered with dual wall adhesive lined heat shrink tubing to protect the joint from corroding. The splice should
be made between the fork in the output cable and the fuse holder. The fuse holder should always remain within 7” of the
battery terminals. The maximum extension length is 15 feet. You may contact the Minn Kota Service Department with any
questions.

I have added to the middle of those cables (same manufacture) by using the same diameter wire and soldering the connections........then shrink tubing and finally electrical tape over the tubing. Never had a problem. The manufacture wants you to purchase their product which of course pricey.

If you don't have faith in your skills then purchase the extension leads.

Out of warranty, no problem. Charger fails during warranty period, manufacturer loves to find anything to deny the claim.
