Default Thanksgiving Eats

Looks like it's my house this year for the Holiday feast this Thanksgiving. I do plan on having the traditional Turkey, stuffing, mashed potato's and sweet potato's with the brown sugar & butter sauce. And Cranberry sauce.

I sure would like to have some fun and add something different to the table. A fun drink, or app, anything to get the group to try something out of the ordinary.

Any ideas, or do you have fave dishes or drinks your looking forward to? If not Turkey what does your family do?

I figure this group and the folks who visit this site have a very similar mindset as me. Most do anyway..

No walleye in the freezer, but I can always get some at the market.

Happy early Holiday!

Default some of our favorites at Thanksgiving

We have the traditional turkey, etc. but our mash potatoes we make with dry ranch dressing and cream cheese. These have been a "look to favorite" for many years.

Also, we do "cheese beans". This is just canned green beans with mexican velveeta cheese.

Now I am looking forward to a week from tomorrow!!

i traveled for Thanksgiving for so many years while I was in college, graduate school, and also for a few years after that while working in the Chicago area. Let's just say that traveling over Thanksgiving weekend is absolutely horrendous. When I moved to NC some 30+ years ago, I swore I would never again travel over Thanksgiving. Friends and relatives are welcome to come over and spend the day with us but I'm not going anywhere.

We have the same meal every year with the standard roasted turkey and sides. I think what makes it really special is my wife's Boursin cheese mashed potatoes, scalloped corn, and my sage sausage - onion - apple - pecan stuffing.

Yum, I can't wait until next week. It's my hands down favorite meal of the year.

Sautéed walleye cheeks and sautéed venison tenderloin medallions made in separate cast iron frying pans are a holiday favorite at my place .

My son has become a real wizard at smoking meat, as well as deep frying meat.

Often, will often do a pair of smaller turkeys. One that is smoked - and one that is deep fried.

I think that generally most of us prefer by a very small margin the smoked turkey.

I'm starving now.. I ordered some St. Elmos cocktail sauce for the shrimp.. It's an eye opener if you haven't tried it. Best Steakhouse in Indy, that's for sure.

I'll smoke some goose breasts while I'm smoking the turkey.

The highlight of our Thanksgiving dinners is pies made from blueberries and apples we grow on our lot. There will also be mincemeat pie, because I love it.

I oiless deep fry( infrared heat) 4 skin on Turkey breasts( about 7 lbs each), injectable marinade each one- butter garlic, jalapeno, creole butter, and hot spicy butter. Really elevates the Turkey taste, Indistinguishable from deep fried in oil except no oil cleanup.
