Yes you can do that. But it most likely will cost you a set of fouled spark plugs. And can put it in 10hr. break in mode. But to each their own!! Wiredog

Any real setbacks that can ruin my motor if I do not prime? Shouldn't the engine beeps if it doesn't sense oil and retard itself? I only had maybe a handful of drops come out of the lowest filter.

Just telling you what Merc. says. That being said i did`nt prime mine. But also watched that no oil ran out of the hoses and did`nt have any problems. Maybe i just got lucky. The lower filter is not the one that will bite you its the upper ones. Wiredog

When I did my reeds I found a bad oil hose I just had to cut the end off ( one that run to the compressor ) and reinstall talked to 2 Mercury dealers they both told me to reprime the system, at least to me better safe then sorry. Oil is cheap compared to a new motor or having to replace a set of plugs.
