Default Lowrance Navionics Card

I got a Hook 7 for my new fishing rig. I now find out that Lowrance has an add on Navionics Card. Coming from a guy who experience with electronics was back when paper graph's were the norm, I'm confused. Do I really need the additional upgrade/expence, or should I just learn how to use this unit effectively. I fish mostly the great lakes and surrounding inland waters. Thank for any and all input. Tom

The maps that come built into the unit are base maps with basic cartography, typically 3 to 6 foot contours. If you want 1’ contours you need a Map card. Navionics has a map preview system so you preview the lakes you frequent to get an idea what the cartography looks like.

What areas do fish and I can recommend the correct card. Navionics also gives the opportunity to update or download new data to the map card to stay current with changes for a year with purchase of new card, then 50% of new for the next year if so desire

First see if you really need a card, depending "IF" and how well the internal mapping is on the unit you have.

I would rec. Navionics+ it covers the whole US and Canada, the card comes preloaded with the Navionics Nautical Charts and you then download the High Def SonarChart layer to card of the areas you fish.

http://www.navionics.com/en/navionics-plus-2

So for 199.00 you get all of US and Canada on one card with a year of updates. You can add multiple areas such Devils-Great Lakes etc....
