open water underwater camera
I have an old (2002) Aqua Vu. Are the new cameras that much better? Any better in murky water? Worth an upgrade?

Worth is hard to answer. First off I have the same camera you have. Hard to see, pretty useless in bright conditions.
I have been drooling on the site lately. If you get the "PRO models" they have gorges resolution, color, super bright and features are amazing The prices are a bit high for me to pull the trigger but the old ones just don't compare. The pro models have HD screens and HD cameras. 7i Pro and 10i Pro. https://www.aquavu.com/ The Gen2 is what I want. Last edited by Ozark Bob; 11-24-2020 at 05:36 AM. |

I bit the bullet and bought the AquaVu Pro model last year. I run it via an HDMI cable to my Lowrance HDS Live for viewing.
I can tell you that it is night and day better in terms of picture quality and "viewability" than my previous Marcum setup. It truly is HD. The combination of the camera quality and the HDS screen is pretty incredible. However, that being said, you're still completely at the mercy of water conditions. If it's dirty, dingy, stained, full of algae, etc..., it doesn't matter how good your camera setup is, you aren't going to see much. To answer your question about whether it's worth it, I don't know. Maybe? It's definitely a nice tool to have, and it's a convenient system, but it wasn't cheap, and you have to dedicate the time and really make use of it to get your money's worth out of it. Waxy |

Thank you. I've seen those. Very nice cameras! You are right about the older cameras. They work great in the "right" conditions. Unfortunately the "right" conditions aren't always when I'm fishing. . Thanks for your insight. I just want to make sure I'm not throwing away money for a marginal upgrade. Appreciate it!

I have the Marcum 825SD they say sunlight viewable my a-s ( one reason I have been looking for a Lowrance cheap used unit with video in )with that said I have had some interesting sights using it. The Marcums light set up is pretty good in murky water, I have camera`d cribs and seen huge Walleyes, Pike, Musky laying right beside the cribs with piles of panfish swimming around them.
Learned more about my depth finder areas of the bottom that were clean and go over that same area at a different time and had all these marks like weeds. I knew that they could not be weeds so I dropped the camera down here it was a mix of fish belly to the bottom. So now when I see this on my depth finder I know what it is. Is it a real tool yes and no is it fun yes. It still pisses me off Hbird never had a video in yet on there depth finders. |
