Naturally, it’s ultimately up to the public to assess blame. What good does it do? An honest assessment tells us where mistakes were made, how they were made, how much we can trust the people and systems that made them and where we need to make changes to avoid similar mistakes in the future.

IMO, the desire to not look too deeply into the sources of our failure is a desire to deny the failure and to push blame off on a few individuals. This is a mistake. It will result in two things, either rapid and radical change or a continuation of a deeply flawed system that will fail again soon and then the radical and chaotic change will happen. Considering that we mostly papered over the failures of 12 years ago I suspect that the ground is fertile for chaos this time. The failure across the country, across party lines, across large institutions and across the supposed safeguards of society must be faced. There is rot at the top brought on by decades of inbreeding. Time to get rid of the rot and let the fertile ground underneath send up new, strong and vibrant shoots.
one would need to be blind to not see what is really going on, there was no failure, this like any other virus was inevitable and no matter how long you close things down for if it exists it will always return.

That is the fly in the ointment. "An Honest assessment". So polarized these days I am not hopeful. We need it to happen. I hope this can come to be. Bob

Some pundits say the covid response is the defining controversy distinguishing the contenders in the election. The problem with that viewpoint is when analyzing the sides there are no differences. The spin masters successfully spun pure propaganda and a lot of people bought into that.
