Default 1875 Pro-Guide or Comp 205 Tiller @ the same price.

As the title says which one would you choose? Lund 1875 Pro Guide 90 Etec or the Competitor 205 Tiller 115 Etec, if they were the same price.

That 205 is a sweet ride, although I'd consider the 135 HO or 150 on it, to get the increased displacement with a minimal weight gain.

That's a tough one, assuming they are new or same year/identical shape. I guess if it were me, the layouts in the pro guides seem so thoughtfully laid out, that extra foot or so and minimal hp difference wouldn't push me to a 20 necessarily.

If you care about ride I would go with the longer boat. I swapped from a Ranger 1880 to a 205 SPT. I thought the ride would be worse in the aluminum but the longer 205 rides softer. I'd also up the HP to 150 on the 205. I have a 250 but I'd consider 200HP perfect for the hull. 150 would also be fine in my opinion.

Thanks for the info! I can bump the Comp 205 up to a 150HP no problem. I just miss a tiller boat and cant seem to decide. I do like the extra room of the 205 and the ability to have 4 seats on the floor when underway.

I was looking for an 18' Alumicraft tournament pro tiller with a 90 merc 4s, found a 20' Pro Guide w/ a 150 Verado for almost the same price. To me, the extra 2' turned out to be a big improvement. I have not looked at the new 205 competitors but have the feeling that that would be the way I would go. Also as others have said, a 150 on the 205 is the way you want to go. I have never heard a guy complaining about too much HP other than joking, but know guys that re-powered just because a salesman sold a price point. Etec or 4S is a personal thing and past experiences have a lot to play with them.
Ches.

Just taking the outboard into consideration, a 90 hp (not a HO) E-TEC compared to a 115 hp E-TEC is a completely different outboard and of course the 115 has more advantages.......for example twice the charging amps available to run the boats demand.

Now it you do decide to go the E-TEC 150 hp route you will now purchasing a G2 E-TEC that has a LOT more advantages then the 90 or 115 hp outboards. See here.......

I have a 205 with a Yamaha 4 stroke. It is awesome! The longer boat will certainly give you a better ride, and the 10' rod locker on the Alumacraft is a nice feature too.

I will make the assumption you are running bigger water. I would bump up the motor on the 205 to a minimum of 150 hp. 115 of any brand IMO is not enough. It will work, but I think you would want more horsepower very soon after the purchase. I suppose a lot depends on your style of fishing and finances.

Good luck on whichever you choose, boat shopping is fun!

I am not necessarily running bigger water. I may hit Lake Ontario once a year. I am looking at this size of boat because there are multiple times a year I want to fish with 4 - 5 people.
I appreciate all the insight as I try to pick my next boat!
