I just received today the same bar that David Anderson is running. In the instructions it says to disconnect the bar from the kicker when running with the main motor.

This was the first I had heard of this. If anyone is using this bar, do you disconnect when kicker is up and running with main motor ?

Reef,
If you go with a mechanical connection, rather than electric steering, a front side connecting bar can sometimes have issues with the geometry angles of such a bar, if one motor is up and the other motor is down.

If that is the case - with respect to your question about disconnecting the bar if one motor is in use and the other motor is not; then consider the use of a rear side connecting bar.

Again, because of the geometry angles, and the difference in motor hinge points, it may be that for your particular motor configuration that a rear side motor connection could allow a connecting bar to remain connected, no matter if one motor is tilted up or not.

The principle reason why a rear side connector can work in awkward or tight motor connections is simply because there is a lot more real estate on the rear side of the motors to do the attachments and connections.

One vendor of the rear side connectors is the EZ steer system vendor.

If you go to the site, you will see the various configurations of motors and connections. If you want to run with one motor up and or one motor down, consider the use of the EZ steer motor connecting system.

Best wishes
