I do a lot of trolling with crawler harnesses & used octopus hooks for years - they were fine. I experimented with Gamakatsu Walleye Wide Gap hooks a few seasons back, and noticed decidedly less fish coming unbuttoned. VMC also makes a Walleye Wide Gap hook (#7105) which is very nice, with a different angle on the eye bend than the Gamakatsu. I still prefer standard octopus hooks for rigging, as the wire is generally lighter and better suited for not impeding the action of livebait... but I'm starting to ramble...

I think VMC makes an excellent hook. I've used a bunch of hooks over the years though and in a #2 or #4 prefer a Gamakatsu.
