the only thing with them is the XD100 oil is nearly $50 per gallon.
The motor is great and very bit as nice as a fourstroke in operation and economy.
The recommended Xd100 is pretty much a dealer item where I live.
I`d buy one again. But I also would hold a fourstroke in equal favor.
No oil changes with an Etec.
Get your oil via the internet. DOMO has frequent sales just to name one source. When I purchased 6 gallons it was under $35 per gallon. Iím averaging about 1.25 gallons per year.

Default Who in right mind buys 2stroke?

My parents owned a f60 for the last 8yrs have put 1000hrs on it(live on Missouri riv). Only thing they really didn't like about it was underpowered on their boat(16ft single console alumacraft). They just upgraded to a 75 yama this year and are delighted.

I really don't understand why I see so many boats still with 2strokes on them, I've had my eyes out for a used 20' walleye boat last year or so and I can tell you anytime I see a boat with a etec on it or even an opti vs a 4stroke especially a Yamaha the 4stroke boat sells for more and much much faster it seems. Try finding a 2008 or newer ranger 620 with a yamaha on it!

Seems to me the biggest pushers these days of the etec are those that have some kinda IN with there dealer...

I had a 60 hp etec. I liked it well. ran great, and was very quiet. Only reason i traded it off was because wife didnt like the boat..................An opportunity to get a bigger boat was not one I was gonna pass up.

I had NO issues with it at all

I have fished out of two boats with e-tecs There is no way they are they quiet! compared to what Bubbi. Unless you are comparing it to a GE locomotive . I guess if you enjoy burning oil into Lake Erie go ahead Its all ready a cesspool

I have never been in a boat with an E-Tec so I can't comment on them. I did have a F60 Yamaha for 9 seasons and it was a wonderful motor. Sipped gas, quiet, never changed a plug, never had it in the shop for anything. I could dial down the RPM's on the tiller handle and just crawl around without the motor coughing or dying. No vibration. It was an outstanding motor. If I had a boat today rated for a 60 Horse Tiller it would be the motor that I would hang on the transom.

I concur.

Our group rented a pontoon boat for a week at a resort stay. Had a late model 40hp Etec. Ran OK,no real complaints, but it absolutely was no where close to as quiet as my Yamaha 4 stroke. And still even smelled like the 2 stroke that it was, even smoking a bit. Felt I was back in time. After running a Yamaha 4 stroke for the last 18 years (an old carb model !!) , nothing about the week spent with an Etec impressed me enough to ever switch.

The resort owner's overall opinion of his Etec was not positive. Complained was in the repair shop more than should be. Told us it was his first, only and last Etec.

Wow, a 40 hp for a pontoon boat or did you rent 2 canoes duct taped together.

Next time the owner should purchase a real pontoon E-TEC outboard...

Looks like you need to add a Big Wheel as part of your equipment list in the tag line you have.
