Question '07 Minn Kota Terrova Ipilot, plan new head

Good morning! My 1st post here. I am looking at updating the head unit on my Terrova. I have found a used 2017 head w/iPilot and BT. Is there a technical reason why that head wouldn't work on my '07? Rather than buying the kit from MinnKota? Any advice, admonishments etc. are appreciated. Thank you

you would also need to replace the main control board that sits in the main base to work with the newer bluetooth heads

Updated my 07 to I pilot link years ago. Mine had the standard I pilot on it though. Only added the top cap and it was off to the races.
But spotlock was never that great. It would hold me within a dozen feet or so. But noting like my Ulterra I have not. Its good for a 2 ft spot 99% of the time. I can sit on the top of a brushpile and pick off crappie. Or over a log and catch Sauger. The Terrova never allowed me to this.

Default The new i-pilot is awesome

I'm not sure if you can just swap the head or if you need the control board too. You can call Minnkota tech support and ask them.
I just upgraded from my 07 Powerdrive to a new Terrova and the spot lock is so much better it's unbelievable. I thought about an Ulterra but there's been too many complaints on here about stow & deploy problems. The Terrova is bulletproof.

I did the same as you, found a used head and remote from someone upgrading to link, and then bought the rest from fishlectronics in mn. if you already have the head and remote you can do all the rest for around 250. your old head and remote should fetch around 200 to someone looking to add ipilot that doesnt have it yet. I see northland marine selling the entire kit to do it for around 700.

With an 07 motor you can plan on motor issues in a short time as well. Still a possible 2 or 3 years left. Prices are already going up on trolling motors. You might want to price out what a new one would cost you if you factor in the age of the original and the improved performance of the current motors. JMO Bob
