Yeah, I'd prefer a 1-piece, too, but I thought it'd be nice to have the extra length of one of those 8'6" Talora Downriggers for this setup...

Nice to hear the dipsys aren't too much for those medium power rods, in any event!

I use Shimano TDR's 8' Med exclusively for dipsy's. Great rod for the money...8' Med works very well for pulling the large Dipsy. Feel free contact me with any questions.

Glad someone revived this. You are deciding on rods but an item that goes hand in hand is a telescopic net. With longer rods and dipsy's you will find it difficult to net the fish, even if you have long arms. I will wager that will be your most likely point of premature release if you fish solo. I have not shopped for one in years but a good quality telescopic net should be on your shopping list. Bob
