Default What is the MOST dependable Sonar ?

I am going to buy a new Sonar Unit because my LCX-25C is Junk. I want to buy something that is dependable. Please tell me about your none Lowrance Sonar, how long you've had it, how much it costs, does it work at high speeds, does the factory stand behind it if it does break down ? Does the manufacturer make it obsolete after 2 years ?Doesn't necessarily have to be color but that would be a plus! If your going to even think about telling me about a Lowrance Product...Forget It! I am offically anti-Lowrance. Thanks, Jim

I have been an Eagle Lowrance guy forever. I run a Birds ( at the urging of a freind ) now and could not be happier. Not one issue and they listen to what there customers want and update the software accordily. I`m so pleased with Humminbird products now and don`t think I will ever buy Lowrance again. In my opinion years ago Birds were junk but not anymore. JMO

I have a lowrance unit in my boat that was purchased late 2002, still running strong, did have an issue with one other unit and they were of great help in troubleshooting, it was out of warranty, they sent new parts to me for free, the unit did die but they sent me a check for half the price of what I paid....out of warranty I'll add as well. They have been great.

Geez, this is my third season on my LCX-25C and not a hiccup (knock on wood), besides the ridiculous software "downgrade" they released that messed up shallow weed sonar readings... all fixed now.

I need another 25C, so if you're throwing it away I could put it to use. :)

I have not owned any other brand...

I have a LCX-27C now.
Last boat had a Humminbird.
The Humminbird transducer had trouble keeping bottom
at speeds greater than 10 mph and the menu was
not the most user friendly.
Other than that the unit worked flawlessly.

For the money I paid for the 27C and along with the
issues I have been having with it, I would be hard
pressed to buy another Lowrance product also.

P.S.
For what it's worth, I think most of the Lowrance problems are not hardware related, but software related.
If Lowrance would get their act together on the firmware issues,
like correct all the current problems and not release new firmware
until it is bullet proof,They would have an excellent product.

I researched the heck out of "affordable" GPS/FF (my budget) units a yr ago or so....and was dismayed by Lowrance's customer service. To be precise.....other's customer service problems that were unsatisfactorily resolved.
Being a first time purchaser, I did not want problems with a unit that costs a pretty good chunk of change (to me). Ended up with a Bird, 797si, and couldn't be happier (other than the small screen for my eyes). You get tons of support from Bird. I think they got it figured out.......make the customer happy with a good product, listen to the customers' needs and act upon any issues promptly.

I have had Lowrance and now use Garmin. I had an issue with the color screen fogging and they replaced without question. It was under warranty but replacement was FAST. I have a GPS on dash, a locator in dash and a GPS/ Locator on bow. Very Happy with all. Any questions I have had has been promptly answered via e-mail. Try them out.
