Any idea of how many people are arrested for OWI/DWI on snowmobiles each year in your state?
It sure seems to me that there could be a lot more done to enforce existing OWI laws on the trails. And I don't know how much dram shop insurance bars need to carry but they need to be responsible for damages caused by their drunk patrons. Also a simple ban on carrying booze while snowmobiling would help. Common sense to me says that if society really wanted to cut down on drunk snowmobiling it would not be that hard to do.
No idea, but specifically in my area, since I've lived here for 7 years now, riding over 200-250 days a year on the trails, I have seen TWO co's patrolling the trails out there. Most of it is budget. I think we have 3 or 4 co's on duty at any one time that have to cover the trails, local shore fishing spots, and dozens of lakes over a couple hundred square mile area. I wouldn't be for hitting bars with fines or lawsuits unless they were grossly negligent. There has to be some personal responsibility. I'd agree with SGPopp that allot of these guys out there aren't legally drunk. The problem is how does one handle their alcohol. With allot of people, it brings out the beer muscles and lead foot/finger. I can hear the sleds entering the trails on their way back from the bar at night from where I'm sitting right now. As soon as they're on the trails, you hear them just hammer the throttle and keep on it until their out of hearing range. When we go out to state land to unwind and watch the sun set on quads or snow mobiles and have a beer or two, we actually drive slower on the way home, relaxing and taking in the ride and stick to the slow 50" trails that have little to no traffic. In winter and on the quad, I stick to the 50" trails because the sleds can't fit on them and it's a safety refuge for me. |

We usually ride nearly every single day from May-December unless it's pouring rain. In the winter to early spring, we usually ride 2 or 3 times a week at least, depending on the temps. This winter has been the least we've ridden because of the brutally cold temps. Advantage of a 30 second ride from driveway to trail head. Juls can attest to the pics I post on FB during the rides. lol As you can see in the pic, we're spoiled when it come to easy trail access. :) Even being that close, I've put on about 2500 miles on this quad in less than 18 months! Typical liberal response. Blame someone else (bar owners) and wish for more laws. Unless bar owners use a breathalyzer how on earth can they know who to serve and not to serve? Not to mention the fact that most of the waiters in these establishments are liberal dopes that flunked out of college. And they should be responsible for determining how much someone has had to drink? How about personal responsibility and enforcing existing laws? This is a sad occurrence and my heart goes out to the family but LOW1's response is predictably ridiculous.
..How about personal responsibility and enforcing existing laws?...
Drinkers are not responsible and existing laws are a joke We need to start enacting third world country laws regarding alcohol. The USA doesn't take it seriously so the people don't take it seriously. The drinkers over here couldn't careless about any laws, they're still gonna drink and kill If you NEED it you have issues Hèll the alcoholics even have their own thread going on here https://www.walleyecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=651578&highlight=drinking The US could flat out do without the alcohol. |
