Default Missouri River Adopt-A-Fish

Walleyes Unlimited is spearheading an educational outreach program to youth again this year called "Missouri River Adopt-A-Fish" to teach kids more about fish. We're doing it in cooperation with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and several federal agencies and it's totally non-profit and non-commercial and it's free to schools.

Classrooms will be able to "adopt" radio-transmitter-implanted fish in the Missouri River below Fort Peck Dam, give them their own name, and follow them through the months of April and May, totally online.

It's open to schools anywhere and includes curriculum topics, online quizes, kids games, fishing, information on 45 different species of fish, and a lot more.

This year, we're following native species -- blue suckers, shovelnose sturgeon and paddlefish. Some radio transmitters are due to be implanted in sauger this year and we hope to add them for 2004. Endangered pallid sturgeon are another fish we hope to add in the future.

You can check it out or sign up by going to: http://www.walleyesunlimited.com/adopt-fish/home.html

If you've got any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me at [email protected].

With the big flush on, I don't know if the radio receivers can keep up with the fish with transmitters. It's still a great program for the kids. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words. It is a good program for kids and teachers really liked it in 2002. -- mark
